Three Peaks Challenge team beaten by the weather

A team of seven partners and members of staff from the UK’s Premiere Lean Consultancy has made a courageous effort to complete the 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge.

The team from S A Partners started the first leg of the challenge on 21st June when they set out to reach the peak of Ben Nevis in Scotland.

It took them five and a half hours to conquer the highest mountain in Britain which stands at 1,344 metres (4,409 ft). Most of the climb was done in relative sunshine until around 100m before the summit where the cloud was thick and the ground covered in snow.

After a quick break it was on to the second leg of the challenge and the seven hour drive to Scafell Pike in Cumbria. At 978 metres (3,209 feet) Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England. Unfortunately a drastic change in weather conditions meant that the climb had to be abandoned just before they reached the top.

Juliette Packham, Senior Consultant said, "The weather conditions were unbelievable; as bad as any winter conditions I have ever climbed in, and at several points over the Scafell boulder stones I found myself clinging to the floor to stop myself being blown off my feet! The visibility was poor and the decision was made to abandon the climb just 75m before the summit. As we got to the bottom of the mountain we were soaking wet, wind beaten and incredibly relieved that nobody got injured. Looking back, I am slightly disappointed that we couldn't complete the challenge but it was definitely the best decision for the safety of the team."

Although the team were frustrated that they were not able to continue on and climb Snowdon they were very pleased with their accomplishment. All funds raised will be matched by S A Partners and donated to WWF.

A global network, covering more than 90 countries, the WWF has more than 45 years of conservation work behind it and is one of the most experienced environmental organisations in the world. To date, the total amount raised stands at £1,615.
